For a century the Johnston typeface has been the typographic voice of London. In honour of Johnston’s centenary, Transport for London had commissioned Monotype to modify and give a modern spin on this classic typeface.
Create a campaign to celebrate the 100-year anniversary of London’s iconic TFL typeface, New Johnston, renamed as Johnston 100.
In order to bring awareness of New Johnston to the general public, a crucial piece of design that most Londoners encounter every day, we developed a print and digital campaign. This highlighted the unique design that embodies London’s transport system through posters that were displayed in underground stations throughout the city, merchandise, and appeared on digital platforms. This was also celebrated in a year-long series of design events organised by TFL as well as at Clerkenwell Design Week.
