Background
Monotype is the global leader in typeface design, visible in many of the world’s iconic typefaces – Helvetica®, Avenir®, Gotham® and in the technologies that have shaped how type is made, used and shared. It has given countless of the best known and best loved brands and businesses their distinctive voices and today is at the forefront of technology, shaped by creativity, intelligence and collaboration.
Brief
Building upon the initial ‘Pencil to Pixel’ launch events held in London and NYC, create an instantly recognisable global campaign identity to engage Monotype’s diverse audiences, exploring their rich past and exciting digital future.
Solution
Celebrating Monotype’s unique heritage and the intersection of craft, code and culture, we devised a campaign name with dual meaning to reflect their history (pencil) and their future (pixel) – ‘Pencil to Pixel by Monotype’.
This special event brought together rare artifacts from the Monotype archive and offered a thought-provoking exploration of how type and communication continue to evolve at a rapid pace. Whether a designer, a creative thinker, or passionate about the art of typography, the exhibtion explored every leap forward in terms of how we connect, create and imagine what’s next.
Pencil to Pixel marked a cultural inflection point, examining the evolution of creativity, technology and typography, with both eyes cast forward.
At Monotype, we look to typography beyond the immediate – it’s the intersection of craft, code, and culture. Our mission is simple: human first.
